This a poem is for the Zimbabwean people who feel like they are losing hope in their government or anything. I really like this piece because it reflects a positive side to things even when life seems to be looking mostly negative. Hope is important for people because it not only demonstrates a person's strength but it also gives a sense of security.

To the right is a picture of the poet.

Hope was but a timid friend;
She sat without the grated den,
Watching how my fate would tend,
Even as selfish-hearted men.

She was cruel in her fear;
Through the bars, one dreary day,
I looked out to see her there,
And she turned her face away!

Like a false guard, false watch keeping,
Still, in strife, she whispered peace;
She would sing while I was weeping;
If I listened, she would cease.

False she was, and unrelenting;
When my last joys strewed the ground,
Even Sorrow saw, repenting,
Those sad relics scattered round;

Hope, whose whisper would have given
Balm to all my frenzied pain,
Stretched her wings, and soared to heaven,
Went, and ne'er returned again!

Just like in the movie Hotel Rwanda the people are relying on hope to get them through the day. By them having that hope they were able to survive through the difficult times. At the end of the day the Zimbabwean people have hope and it will open up new doors for them and when corruption hits they will always have hope for a brighter day

  1. Another general question I have is why do people sometimes tend to over look "Hope"?

  2. I personaly feel that a big part of it is that they never had anything to put their hope into so they never knew what it was like to trust somthing.
