Attacks in Africa

While searching for certain documents to post on to the blog about the current events that are happening in Africa, I came across and article found on CNN.com that talked about what they called a "deadliest massacre" that was executed by an African leader named Boko Haram. This article spoke about what exactly Boko Harams I tensions were when it came to killing all of these people and just how he felt was the correct way to execute this attack. The attack started on January 3, 2015 and lasted 3 days. The attack and raiding took place in the town of Baga and many people and their families had to flee their own living environment. A statement made from the chairman of the local government says, "Dead bodies litter the bushes in the area and it is still no‎t safe to go and pick them (up) for burial," said Musa Bukar. These attacks were brutal, fatal, and extremely scary for the families that lived in this village. This article reminded me exactly of how the attacks happened in the movie Hotel Rwanda. The towns where people spent their lives innocently were attacked and raided simply for the feeling of others. The violence of the attacks in this article make me vision how the attacks happened in the movie. This article and the movie Hotel Rwanda are a great comparison in the sense that they both show how people have lost many things and how people try and take control all because they are ordered too. Innocent people of these towns have lost and could possibly still be losing their homes, family members, and their sense of security in their own home. People's homes aren't safe anymore in certain parts of Africa and the violence of other cultures and people has changed our world in a very negative way.m.imdb.com/title/tt0395169/

  1. After reading this I realized the similarities in the article you researched and the book we read "A Long Way Gone. Just like how Ishmael Beah couldn't return to his home after the rebels attacked his village the people of Baga are forced to leave their homes. The connection you made with the article and Hotel Rwanda clearly displays what happens when a person gets to much power. It causes corruption in countries and innocent people are forced to live in fear everyday. I wonder if any steps are being taken to help the people of Baga?

    1. I agree with you saying that this connects to the book we read in class. I also now see that this also connects to the seminars we have been having in class. Thinking about this just makes me stand behind my point in saying that without a positive drastic change in these areas, no good with come out of any of this.

    2. I completely agree this area needs some type of positive drastic change to happen! With so much corruption throughout Baga it's going to be a very difficult task. I hope that they get the help they need to build themselves back up

  2. There is no denying that the Boko Haram is a deadly terrorist group, but one thing that questions me is what do they get out of this. Does the world see them different because of this?
